Using GIS for Community Resilience

I recently worked on a project utilizing GIS to identify at-risk neighborhoods for flooding after heavy rains. By layering socioeconomic data with environmental maps, we could prioritize which areas needed intervention the most. It’s impressive how GIS can highlight vulnerabilities like that. I’ve found using historical flood data alongside current socioeconomic factors really helps prioritize areas for intervention too. Last summer, we managed to secure funding for flood barriers in the most at-risk zones identified through our maps.
