I’m updating our community impact assessment workflow for a 2026 transit corridor plan and need reproducible tools for multimodal accessibility and equity screening. We’re on QGIS 3.34 with PostGIS 15 and are weighing r5r/Conveyal against ESRI Network Analyst to report 10- and 20-minute access to clinics, jobs, and parks by block group. If you have templates or example schemas that translate cleanly into council-ready maps and metrics, I’d appreciate pointers.
And i’ve had good luck piping r5r’s travel_time_matrix into PostGIS and computing 10/20‑min access with area‑weighted intersects to block groups instead of centroids — “don’t let centroids drive the bus.” Conveyal Analysis is faster for scenario sweeps, but if you stay in r5r set max_walk, wait_time, and transfer penalties explicitly and cache the R5 graph; quick starter here: GitHub - ipeaGIT/r5r.
For our 2025 corridor study, we ran r5r for 6–8 departure minutes and wrote P50/P90 travel times to PostGIS 15 so 10/20‑min access isn’t hinging on one timestamp — , single‑minute bias drove me nuts. Building on @sophia_w57, we aggregate via a fixed 250 m hex grid mapped to block groups once, then reuse that lookup in QGIS 3.34 to keep reruns fast. If you want a barebones schema, we used results(origin_hex, dest_poi, minute_bin, tt_p50, tt_p90) and opportunities(dest_poi, type, weight); Conveyal’s great for scenarios, but r5r + pinned GTFS/OSM snapshots was easier on budget.
